How to Become a UGC Creator in India (2026 Guide)

By Vedant Padmawar, Founder, Hypee·Published ·7 min read

A UGC (user-generated content) creator makes photos and videos about a product for the brand to use on its own pages and ads. You don't need to post it on your account, so follower count matters much less. To start in India: pick a few product categories, make 3–5 sample videos, build a portfolio, price per video plus usage rights, and pitch brands or apply to UGC campaigns.

What kind of UGC brands want

Most UGC is vertical video, 15–45 seconds, with a clear hook in the first two seconds.

  • • Unboxing and first impressions.
  • • Short demos or how-to videos.
  • • Honest reviews and before-and-after results.
  • • Testimonial-style talking videos, filmed on a phone.
  • • Product photos in real settings.

Step 1: Make sample videos

You don't need a brand to start. Pick 3–5 products you already own in the categories you want to work in, and make one video of each type above. Good light, clear audio and a strong first line matter more than an expensive camera.

Step 2: Build a portfolio

Put your samples in one place a brand can open in seconds: a pinned highlight, a Google Drive folder, or a media kit link. Include your categories, the formats you make, languages you speak (Hindi, English, regional) and your rates.

A Hypee media kit works as a UGC portfolio too: it shows your content and rates on one link, and brands posting campaigns on Hypee can choose UGC (no posting) as the deliverable.

Step 3: Price UGC by video and usage

Price each video, then add usage rights on top. Organic use on the brand's own page costs less than running your video as a paid ad, and longer ad periods cost more. Raw footage, extra hooks and edits for different platforms are extras too.

If you're unsure where to start, use your Instagram Reel rate as a floor. Across creators listing rates on Hypee (11 October 2026), the median Reel rate was ₹800 under 1K followers and ₹2,000 for 1K–10K. Since UGC doesn't include your audience, many creators price UGC on the effort and the usage instead.

Step 4: Find UGC work

  • • Pitch small Indian D2C brands that already run Instagram ads; they need fresh ad creatives often.
  • • Reply to brands posting UGC requests on Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • • Apply to UGC campaigns on creator marketplaces. On Hypee, brands can post campaigns with UGC as the deliverable, and creators of any size can apply.

Agree the terms in writing

  • • Number of videos, length, format and deadline.
  • • How many revisions are included.
  • • Usage rights: where the brand can use it and for how long.
  • • Whether you get the product, a fee, or both, and when you're paid.

FAQ

What is a UGC creator?

A UGC creator makes photos and videos about a product for the brand to post on its own pages or use in ads. Unlike an influencer, you don't need to post it on your own account.

Can I become a UGC creator with 0 followers?

Yes. Brands pay UGC creators for the content, not the audience, so a strong portfolio of sample videos matters far more than followers.

How much do UGC creators charge in India?

Rates vary widely by video length, editing and usage rights. Price per video and add usage rights on top, with paid-ad usage costing more than organic use. Your Instagram Reel rate is a reasonable floor.

Where can I find UGC work in India?

Pitch small D2C brands that run Instagram ads, reply to UGC requests on Instagram and LinkedIn, and apply to UGC campaigns on creator marketplaces such as Hypee, where creators of any size can apply.
